Trail Maps:

The El Paso County Parks and Leisure services has developed maps for parks within the county.  Visit adm.elpasoco.com/Parks/Facilities to see a county map showing where the parks, trails and facilities are located.  Also on that page are links to maps of these parks.

Black Forest Section 16 (not to be confused with Section 16 on the west side of town)

Black Forest Regional Park  There is no up-to-date map of this park since Milam road was extended through the park in 2008 to service Mr. Potter's Cathedral Pines development.  This extension cut five Park Department maintained trails plus two additional "social trails."  In the fall of 2008 the Parks Department put in some connecting trails.  These included two at-grade road crossings and one culvert under Milam Rd. that is large enough for horseback riders.

As a part of the BFRP Master Plan, the Parks Department is taking an "inventory" of all trails in the Park including those in Cathedral Pines.  It still requires some revisions but it is fairly complete as of 4/15/10.  Click here to see it.

I've taken the official Parks map of the BFRP and sketched in the places where the trails have been closed as well as a very rough idea of where the new connecting trails are plus many of the "social trails."  Each is colored coded with a key.  See map.

In the fall of 2008 a private citizen saw the need for trail signs.  At his own expense he placed arrows on many of the trails in the northern portion of the park and measured the loops using a GPS.  He developed a rough sketch map with colors keyed to his arrows.  He also placed a key and map copies at the north trailhead.

Trail descriptions

A couple of our members are starting to develop detailed trail descriptions of trails in the region.  Take a look at their first effort.  I think you will be as impresses as I was.
