Park Volunteers

El Paso County Parks and Leisure Services is always looking for volunteer assistance in maintaining County parks.  Our organization has agreed to help in several ways.  We have participated in the Adopt-A-Park/Adopt-A-Trail Program for a number of years.  This involves picking up trash in BF Section 16 and the BF Regional Park as well as controlling noxious weed in those and other areas within the Black Forest.

Participants in these programs must have a signed "No Compensation Acknowledgement" form on file with the Parks Department.  If you are interested, please print and complete the No Comp form and mail it to 5150 High Meadows Ln. 80908.  Following your work please let Hank Hoover 495-2702 know how many hours were donated.

Meet in the Section 16 parking lot on Burgess Rd. just west of Vollmer Rd. at 9 AM.   Bring water and appropriate clothing for walking.  Expect to stay until noon.

Section 16 is bounded by Shoup Rd. on the north, Vollmer Rd. on the east, Burgess Rd. on the south, and Herring Rd. on the west.

Black Forest Regional Park The proposed four crossings of Shoup Rd.  were reduced to three (one being an underpass large enough for horse riders).  This reduction was done by the Parks people and the EPC DOT to address safety/visibility issues.  Warning signals were installed on the two grade level crossing by EPC DOT.  By year end all approved trails were cleared and graded.  Two culverts remain to be installed and all the trails need surfacing.
Paradise Island Reviewed developer plans with a walkthrough.

2006 Projects:

Project Description
Section 16 Trail The BFTA is proud of our involvement in the creation and maintenance of this trail.  With the main trailhead just west of the intersection of Vollmer and Burgess Roads, the trail is easily accessible for riders, bikers, and hikers.
Black Forest Regional Park With the extension of Milam Road through the BFRP, six existing trails were interrupted.  We worked with the El Paso County Parks Department to locate new trails to reconnect these trails.
Trail Construction Built more than a mile of trail from Herring Road to Brentwood Drive.  This involved  obtaining permission from landowners, clearing, raking, tree trimming, stump removal, installation of two gates, and signage.  This project completed the last leg of the trail segment connecting BF Section 16 and Black Forest Road.
